Customer ReviewsRating: 5 out of 5 Comprehensive source book for the network designer Professor Sharma's book, Network Design Using EcoNets, is a synthesis of his many years of experience in network design. His book provides you the foundation, definitions, and quantification to do real world network design with his EcoNets tool.EcoNets, his interactive network design program, included with the book, is the physical embodiment of Professor Sharma's years of experience. Using EcoNets, you will be able to quantify the unquantifiable. That is, you will be able to successfully model and design a variety of networks. In his book, Professor Sharma walks you through a myriad of design applications. This step-by-step approach gives the novice EcoNets user sufficient savvy to design real world networks. Part of this book's strength is that it systematically defines many networking buzzwords. For instance, on Page 3 of the text Professor Sharma defines network architecture as consisting of five attributes: geographical coverage, method of access, network topology, transmission or multiplexing techniques, and network management techniques. Each of these is in turn defined. His treatment turns a mere buzzword into a concrete concept usable in the real world. Rating: 4 out of 5 The book is a good user's guide to Econets software. This book, when coupled with the software, makes for a very useful tool in the hands of anyone who needs to plan a network while considering multiple variables, such as cost, bandwidth, and topology. I am not a network genius, but in a very short time I was able to design and create multiple iterations of a network to meet various parameters.
